The Tree of Life and the Stoclet Frieze ( part ) - Klimt Gustav

The Tree of Life is a work of the Artist Gustave Klimt prepared to decorate the dining room of the Stoclet Palace. The work as we know it today consists of a series of cartoons where the artist has sketched what was then created as a mosaic on the wall. The project for the tree of life and the stoclet frieze was a work of the years 1905-1909 and represents the evolution of Klimt's art, where decoration prevails over the sense of classic three-dimensionality. The work is divided into three parts, where in the center is the tree of life on which a bird is placed. The branches of the tree run and are the background to the whole composition and with their circular shape they give movement and rhythm to the composition. On the left is the figure of the dancer clearly inspired by Egyptian art, with the face turned in profile looking in the direction of the tree. The woman's body is completely hidden by the dress decorated with triangular motifs and stylized eyes. On the right of the painting is Il Compimento, better known as the embrace in which the two figures of man and woman enjoy the intimate moment of the embrace. Even in this case the anatomy of the two figures we know nothing because they are completely covered by the man's dress, richly decorated with geometric motifs. The cartoons made by Klimt present various annotations and written as a reminder for the definitive work.
